Week 44: Augstsee & Loser Fenster

Loser Panoramastrasse

If this name sounds familiar, it is because we came here on week 27. This time, we were able to continue on beyond the parking lot and participate in the hikes we were hoping for.

After a 10 minute uphill walk from the parking lot at Loser-Alm, we arrived at Augstsee. A circular trail with amazing views of the Dachstein Glacier and Salzkammergut.

After a 20 minute walk around the circular trail, we were given two paths to take. The left side seemed a bit easier, so we made our ascent up to the Loser Fenster.

Loser Fenster is one of the most popular hiking destinations, because of its unique rock formation.

The large ”rock window” frames the endless views of the surrounding landscape. If you ask me, I think the window looks bit like the outline of Illinois. Agreed?

After about 2.5 hours of walking around and climbing, we made our way back down to the mountain hut, Loser-Alm, for lunch. There were no vegan/vegetarian options, so we settled for apple strudel and it was the best we have had since we arrived…and we have had our fair share of apple strudels 😆.
