Week 143: 1000 days in Austria

This week (July 17) we reached a big milestone–1000 days in Austria. To celebrate, we climbed a new Via Ferrata–The Postalmklamm. We were at the Postalm in Week 66 to ski, so it was good to be back to see the landscape in a different season.

This C-level Ferrata led us through a gorge with 7 bridges and up the side of a waterfall. After parking the car and walking 10 minutes through a muddy forest, we came to the first crossing.

After completing the first gorge crossing, the walls became quite slippery. There were a few sections where you had to jump from one side to the other. Thankfully, the extra “safety carabiner” made this very easy and safe. There was another climber behind us who insisted on dangling upside down from a few of the wires…

After 4.5 hours of climbing through the gorge and hiking through the forest, we went back to the car and continued up the windy Postalm road to our lunch spot, the Lienbachhof. A family-run alpine hut serving traditional Austrian food in the middle of the Postalm.

We ordered the special of the day which was the Eirschwammerl and Knodel. Schwammerl means large mushroom in the Austrian dialect and is a staple in most Austrian dishes. We ate our lunch to the sounds of cowbells ringing all across the meadow.

This Austrian adventure was a great way to wrap up our 1000 days in Austria.
