Week 136: Finkstonball & Hans Zimmer LIVE in Vienna

Week 136 started out on the softball field at the 24th Annual Finkstonball tournament-a tournament I knew nothing about until a few months ago. This invitational tournament brings in eight senior baseball and softball teams from all over the world to the biggest baseball-softball-open-air festival, including teams from the USA and Canada!

I not only got to play in the tournament, but I also had the opportunity to design the branding for it in the weeks leading up to the event! From print ads to billboards, brochures, IDs, and social posts.

After 4 games and 4 days, my team finished in 7th place, but I finished in the top three overall with a .600 batting average!

Week 136 ended in Vienna.

Eric and I took the train into the city and had dinner at Seven North before heading to the Hans Zimmer Live Concert at the Wiener Stadthalle.

Vienna was just one of 30 concerts and 15 countries the band was traveling to while on their Europe tour.

For 2.5 hours, Hans and the band played his most popular compositions from The Dark Knight, Gladiator, Inception, and Interstellar, to The Last Samurai, James Bond, Pirates of the Caribbean, Wonder Woman 1984, and The Lion King. The end of the concert was approaching as the lights shifted to yellow and red and we heard…

“Nants ingonyama bagithi baba
Sithi uhm ingonyama”

Ya know, the intro lyrics to the Circle of Life in The Lion King that no one actually knows, but everyone has a version of what it sounds like in their head?

The special guest of the night was vocalist, Lebohang Morake–the real voice of those famous lyrics. With the Lion King being 30 years old (1994), it was really cool to be at this concert. It was a moment that made the 5-year-old Sarah and Eric very happy.

After the Lion King performances ended, the show was seemingly over. But with 10,000+ people applauding across the venue and perhaps his most famous song yet to be played, Hans and the band came back out and played two more songs for the encore–’Time’ being the grand finale.

This is a video of ‘Time’ from a couple of years ago. Eric and I probably contributed 100 views to this YouTube video leading up to the concert, so finally hearing it in person was just as awesome as we had anticipated.
