Week 126-127: Spring in Gmunden

Like every season, this spring will bring a new set of experiences, memories, changes, and opportunities. Opportunities to play softball again, traveling and making memories in new countries, and hopefully some new and exciting job updates. Here are a couple highlights from the last two weeks…

March 16

I was featured in a few local and national newspapers for joining the Athletics organization. It is obviously all written in German, but it talks about my past experiences and excitement to continue playing on an international level.

We celebrated the annual Liebstattsonntag festival in our town for the third time, but this time was with our American friends who live in Vienna. The last two events took place during Week 74 and Week 21. This year we discovered a secret courtyard behind the Haas Hüte which is decorated for each festive holiday.

I took a train into Linz to interview for a full-time job at a production company and I have another interview in Salzburg this week.

I walked through Gmunden on my own, which is something I have actually never done before. Almost every day has been raining or snowing, but on this day the sun was shining and flowers were blooming.

I had a scrimmage softball game in Austria’s first division league with the Linz Witches. We played a team from Germany in a 2 game scrimmage. The team I am helping coach for, The Athletics, is in Austria’s 2nd division. However, both teams have an agreement allowing players to play in both leagues!

Hitting the ball

It has been about 9 years since I have hit off of a live pitcher in a fast pitch game. It felt good to get back out on the field. My parents have been to pretty much every single game of mine growing up, so it was a little odd not having them in the “stands”, which were actually just plastic chairs and a tent. But, Eric was there ❤️.

One of my favorite parts about playing in Austria is looking at all of the equipment and seeing “Louisville Slugger” on almost everything. Makes me feel just a little closer to home ;)

This spring will also bring us to a few new countries! Jordan being our next destination which is technically in Asia, so a new continent for us as well! We fly out on Wednesday and will be exploring the country for 5 days.
